UNITED STATES: white metal medal, 1889, D-49A, AU, 38mm, GEORGE WASHINGTON FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES 1789 around bust facing right within circle // CENTENNIAL ANNIVERSARY OF HIS INAUGURATION NEW YORK / APRIL 30 1889: oath of office administered by Robert R. Livingston, open Bible on which the President lays his hand is held on a rich crimson velvet cushion by Samuel Otis, Secretary of the Senate, pierced as made. On April 30, 1789, George Washington took the oath as the first president of the United States. The oath was administered by Robert R. Livingston, the Chancellor of New York, on a second floor balcony of Federal Hall.
